How to return an online purchase
IN-STORE RETURN OF AN ONLINE PURCHASE
1. Start a return request HERE
2. Write the return number on the return sticker provided and stick it on the top of your package. This step is mandatory.
3. Drop off your package at one of our four locations.
4. Your return will be processed within 6 business days following the reception of your package. A confirmation email will be sent to you once your return has been processed.
POSTAL RETURN OF AN ONLINE PURCHASE

3. Once our team has made sure that your request meets the return requirements, you will receive a return label within 24 hours. Once printed and attached to your package, your return will be ready to ship.
Please note that the cost of the return label will be deducted from your return.

Our online return policy
Please note that return policies are not the same in-store and online.
- Please note that you have 15 days from the date of reception of your order to ask for a return
and send back your package through mail or drop it off in store. - All items must be returned in their original state: they must not have been worn, washed or altered and be free of stains, rips, pulls, hair, fur or perfume.
- The original tag must still be attached to the item.
- Boutique 1861 does not cover return fees. Postal fees will be deducted from the amount reimbursed.
- Regular priced items are eligible for a return, a store credit or an exchange. If you chose the store credit option, you will receive a 5$ bonus. Boutique 1861 covers postal fees for exchanges within Canada.
- Sale items are only eligible for a store credit (without bonus) or an exchange. Boutique 1861 covers postal fees for exchanges within Canada.
- Items marked as ‘final sale’ cannot be returned or exchanged. All accessories (excluding shoes, sunglasses and veils), lingerie (excluding bralettes), swimsuits, gift cards and home decor items are final sale.
- Reporting of a defective item must be done within 15 days of receiving your order. Please contact our customer service team at info@boutique1861.com and submit a picture of the problem so we can find the best solution to your situation.
Online return options
STORE CREDIT
- 1861 store credits do not expire and can be used either online or in any of our boutiques.
- Store credits for the return of regular priced items benefit from a 5$ bonus. Limit of one 5$ bonus per order.
- Orders that are subject to multiple returns cannot benefit from the 5$ store credit bonus more than once.
- Store credits are final. Store credits cannot be returned or exchanged for money.
- For returns outside of Canada, it is the customer's responsibility to cover the cost of postage to make a return. We do not provide the return label. Please note that it is mandatory to stick on your package the return sticker provided in your order. This label is used to declare that the contents of the package are Canadian goods being returned. Please note that if you do not affix this label, your order may be subject to Canadian customs fees which will be deducted from your store credit.
EXCHANGE
- Exchanges are possible for the same item in a different size or color, or for a different product at a different price. You must contact us by phone at 514-903-1861 or by email at info@boutique1861.com if you wish to make an exchange for a different product.
- If the item you wish for is still available, our team will put it aside for you. You will receive a new order number for your exchange within 24 hours following the reception of your return request.
- If you live in Montreal, you can proceed to your exchange directly in one of our boutiques following the submission of your return request.
- The new exchanged item will be sent at Boutique 1861's expense. This is valid only for exchanges made in Canada.
- For exchanges within Canada, we do not provide Canada Post prepaid labels since no shipping charges can be deducted from your transaction. You are free to choose the carrier of your choice. You are free to share the tracking number of your return package with us at info@boutique1861.com. Once your return has been received and processed, we will make sure to ship your exchange order free of charge.
- For exchanges outside of Canada, it is the customer's responsibility to cover the postal fees to proceed with the exchange. We do not provide return shipping label. An email will be sent to you after the reception of your return request to confirm and explain the international exchange process. Please note it is mandatory to stick the return sticker provided in your original order on top of your parcel. This is to declare that the content of the package is Returned Canadian Goods. Please note that if you do not stick it, your return shipment can be subjected to Canadian custom fees which would then be charged to you before we send your exchange.
REFUND
- Refunds will be processed on the same method of payment that was used for your order.
- We refund the price of regular priced items, including taxes.
- We do not refund shipping fees, taxes applied on them nor custom fees for international orders.
- For returns outside of Canada, it is the customer's responsibility to cover the cost of postage to make a return. We do not provide return labels. Please note that it is mandatory to stick on your package the return sticker provided in your order. This label is used to declare that the contents of the package are Canadian goods being returned. Please note that if you do not affix this label, your order may be subject to Canadian customs fees which will be deducted from your refund.
How to return an in-store purchase
Please note that return policies are different in-store and online.
- Clothing and shoes eligible for a return can be returned within 15 days after the purchase, either for a store credit (valid in our physical stores) or an exchange.
- In-store purchases are not refundable.
- Returns must be made directly in store.
- Returns must be accompanied by the original receipt.
- All tags must still be on the item.
- The item must be in its original state: it must not have been worn, washed, or damaged, and must contain all pieces (if it applies).
The following items are final sale:
- Items on sale
- Accessories (except shoes and veils)
- Lingerie (except bralettes)
- Bodysuits
- Swimwear
- Gift cards
- Home items
They are not eligible for an exchange or store credit.
We allow ourselves the right to refuse any parcel not meeting our criteria.

Most Frequent questions about our return policies
I ordered a sale item; what is your return policy?
Sale items cannot be reimbursed, but you can exchange them or get a credit note (without bonus). The credit note never expires, so you can use it whenever the mood strikes you. *Please note accessories cannot be returned, exchanged, or refunded
Can I return or exchange my online purchase(s) in-store?
You can return your item in one of our boutiques; please note that the boutiques are a drop-off location only and the reimbursement will be processed at the online store.
Do I have to pay the shipping costs of returning my item?
The shipping fees applicable to the return of your item are your responsibility. If you live in the Montréal region, you can always drop-off your return in one of our boutiques.
How long until I receive my reimbursement if I do a return of an online order?
We process the reimbursement of your items as soon as they are received and managed by our Returns Department. We will send you an email informing you of the transaction, which will specify the amount and method of reimbursement. Please note that depending on your financial institution, the reimbursement may take 1-7 business days before appearing in your bank statement.
